Kokoro Guildford

Kokoro meaning heart in japanese is a small cafe/restaurant in Guildford on North road. It used to be named something like 'Sushi box' and was ran by English people. Back then, they sold sandwiches, salads and a select amount of sushi and Japanese noodle dishes. I ate there once or twice then and the sushi was poor, stodgy rice and small tiny pieces of fish.

Kokoro

The cafe opened as kokoro under new ownership (by Korean people) around spring time this year and it has improved in terms of quality, quantity, price and so much more. It is always so busy now and rightly so. They have around 8 bar seats and it's hard to get one!

The food

The concept and food is like the Wasabi sushi chains. Sushi in the fridge and hot food on the counter. Prices are so reasonable, a large bento of sushi is around avergae £7 to £9. Meat gyoza £2.75. Although the sushi is good, I expecially love the hot food. Small rice or noodle plus meat side is £4.25. I must emphasise, very, very, generous portions. A small katsu curry, is the same size as one served to you in Wagamama's for £10. Chilly chicken is delicious, deep fried chicken with a sweet hot, red pepper flake sauce. The rice is also the very nice pearl sushi rice, not the cheap alternatives. Medium size hot lunches are £5.55, this is substantial for two hungry girls or a starving man!
